The Nevada Cancer Institute announced this week that Bally Technologies would be committing to a long-term partnership with the charitable organization. While some were surprised by the move, the slot machine and video gambling technology company did not let the dire economic times deter it from joining with the cancer center to support research.

Bally Technologies promised to match equally all employee donations, as well as set up a company donation plan. Bally will also participate in cancer education and early detection services for its Nevada workforce of over 1300 individuals.

Bally CEO Richard Haddrill said, “In today’s trying economic times it is difficult to make charitable commitments, but we at Bally recognize that times like this are when support is needed the most.”

Heather Murren, chairman of the Nevada Cancer Institute board, said, “Bally Technologies’ generous financial support of NVCI couldn’t come at a better time. This will help us lessen the financial hardship Nevada cancer patients and their loved ones face as they fight the biggest fight of their lives – the battle against cancer.”
