Two campaign workers in this months’ election in Ohio have been arrested on charges of falsifying absentee ballot applications. Both workers facing charges were hired by Fieldworks, a campaign management company contracted by Penn National Gaming (PENN: 24.80 +0.49%) and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert to canvass for supporters on Issue 3.

Fieldworks resigned from the casino operators campaign two weeks before the election once evidence of fraud had surfaced. The companies are not being investigated as there is no evidence that can link the fraud to any management directive.

In all, 38 absentee ballot applications in Hamilton County and 8 in Franklin County were identified as possible forgeries. Authorities are still conducting their investigation into the suspicious forms.

There has been no reports that the indictments can negatively effect the outcome for casinos in the state, as there has been no indication that the ballots were used in the vote.

State officials continue to iron out legislation regarding casino regulations and proposed tax increases. Although the casino issue passed with 53% of the votes statewide, voters in Columbus, Franklin and six other central counties rejected the bill.
