Not only has MGM Mirage (MGM: 11.10 0.00%) launched the opening of their massive CityCenter complex on the Las Vegas Strip with luxury hotels, high end shopping destinations, condo’s and a casino but they also contributed to the opening of a new fire station.

The gaming company hosted a dedication ceremony on Thursday for Station 32 which will aid in quicker response times to fire and medical emergency calls in the area.

“Fire Station 32 is a critical public asset as it’s located in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip and will greatly assist the department with our responses along the resort corridor,” said Fire Chief Steve Smith.

On the first day the station was in service firefighters responded to more than 30 emergency calls, which corresponds with the departments expectation that the station will become the counties busiest.

The station will service the City Center and other resorts in the area freeing neighboring stations to respond to residential calls when needed.

The station is the department’s first on a resort property and was built and equipped by the casino operator at a cost of $28 million. The project was part of an agreement with the county to build the resort complex.

While most new fire stations are more than 10,000 square feet and built on open land, Station 32 is a 5,700 square foot building with six rooms tucked into the side of the Vdara Hotel and Spa off of Harmon Ave.
