Penn Looking For New W.V. Lobbyist
Larry Puccio, West Virginia’s Governor Joe Manchin’s former chief of staff says he is in negotiations with the Jefferson County racetrack and casino’s parent company Penn National Gaming (PENN: 25.62 +2.85%) to serve as its primary lobbyist.
He anticipates starting next week when the 2010 regular legislative session begins.
However, Penn National Gaming senior vice president John Finamore said Wednesday, “I can tell you there is no signed contract between Penn National and Larry at this time. That’s all I can say.”
Puccio resigned from Manchin’s office at the end of December where he served as Manchin’s chief of staff since January 2001.
Puccio was given an employment exemption from the state Ethics Commission in December allowing him to seek employment with regulated private-sector entities, prior to the standard twelve month waiting period.
Sources said Penn National notified, Nikki Barone, Charles Town’s lobbyist for the past several sessions that her contract would not be renewed for 2010.
