South County’s 130,000 residents out of work are welcoming the opportunity from Pinnacle Entertainment (PNK: 11.01 0.00%) to fill positions from management to service providers at the now hiring River City Casino in St. Louis.

The casino operator plans to hire 1,000 jobs before opening in the spring. Although the jobs are coming at the right time and will be filled by local residents, economist say the $370 million facility will have little impact on the area’s 10.31 percent unemployment rate.

Thursday was the second hiring call for the gaming company. A July posting attracted 12,000 applicants for 100 management and casino floor positions that were hired.

The River City is the newest area casino for Pinnacle, who also owns and operates Lumiere Place and the President Casino in downtown St. Louis.
