Sands Offers Sports Wagering Via Wireless Devises
Las Vegas Sands (LVS: 26.69 0.00%) have implemented new technology at the Venetian and the Palazzo casinos that allow sports betters to place wagers from a small wireless handheld device.
The new gaming system, branded as PocketCasino allows gamers to place bets using electronic credits assigned to the device after players submit cash to casino employees and register for a contactless card that keeps the devices confined to a specific area.
This security feature automatically shuts down if the device is removed from the area to prevent anyone else from using the device if lost or stolen.
Customers can place bets via the devise or from interactive touch screen kiosks on the casino floor, with “in-running betting” which allows bets to be placed while the game is in play.
The new technology even allows gambling on blackjack and baccarat games installed on the devise.
Casino operators hope that the new betting opportunity will boost revenue from sports bets. Last year sports gambling revenue from Nevada Casinos combined totaled $125 million, only 1.25% of the state’s total gambling revenue.
